Job title

Human Resources and Health and Safety Advisor

Reports to

     

 Finance and HR Manager

 

 

Job purpose

 

The HR and Safety Advisor  serves as a key point of contact for employees and supports the day to day HR operations in the areas of recruitment, health and safety, employee relations and general HR administration duties.

 

Duties and responsibilities

 

• Support managers in the recruitment process: post jobs, screen applicants, coordinate interviews, complete reference checks and conduct job offers and carry out orientations and safety training

• Provide advice and guidance to employees at all levels regarding human resources policies and procedures, benefits, training, and performance reviews

• Day-to-day administration of the benefits plans, including enrollments, administrative changes and reporting requirements provide information to employees pertaining to employee benefits, pension etc.

• Manages short term disability, WSIB case management and Early Return to Work cases as required

• Oversee the attendance management program, track absences and initiate the disciplinary process

• Oversee the Health and Safety and First Aid program, coordinate and/or conduct safety training, order first aid supplies and PPE,  Co-Chair JHSC meetings and complete administrative duties of the committee, update bulletin boards and health and safety policies

• Coordinate safety training, safety meetings, workplace investigations and workplace incidents

• Coordinate company social events

• Complete various Human Resources and Health and Safety reports, projects and initiatives as required

• Update policies, procedures and job descriptions

• Manage AODA legislative requirements, file compliance reports and promote accessibility by developing, implementing and maintaining policies

• Address day to day employee queries and related HR administrative activities

 

Qualifications

 

Minimum qualifications required to successfully perform the job:

 

• Post secondary diploma in Human Resources Management

• Must have a strong background in health and safety

• JHSC and Standard First Aid Certification.  Ergonomics Training is an asset

• Must be confident in communicating and interacting with all levels

• An understanding of collective agreements and relevant legislation (ESA, AODA, Human Rights Act, Ontario Labour Relations Act,  Occupational Health and Safety Act etc.)

• Advanced skills in Excel and Word, working knowledge of AS400 is an asset

• Must have Strong communication skills, with the ability to develop relationships and foster cooperation

• Must be detail oriented and able to work independently

• Flexible to meet constantly changing demands of the workplace

• Proven desire to provide quality service to our Team Members and external candidates

• Must be discreet and sensitive when handling confidential issues

 • Must be able to read and write proficiently in English.

• Must be comfortable speaking or presenting in front of large diverse groups of people

• Must be comfortable working within a manufacturing environment

• Hours of Work Monday through Friday 7 am – 3:30 pm
